Commemoration ceremony of April 9, 1938 events

April 9, 2011 – TAP - A ceremony was organized on Saturday morning at the Sejoumi Martyrs' Square, on the occasion of the commemoration of the April 9, 1938 events.
Chaired by Interim President Foued Mebazaa, the ceremony provided the occasion to pay tribute to all those who had sacrificed their lives for the independence and sovereignty of the homeland.
Mr. Foued Mebazaa saluted the flag as the national anthem was performed and reviewed a detachment of the three armies paying him honors.
Then, he laid a sheaf of flowers at the foot of the martyrs' memorial before reciting the Fatiha (opening verses of the Koran) to their memory.
The ceremony was attended by all Government members, notably the Interim Prime Minister and the Mufti of the Republic, as well as several senior officers of the National Army.
