Kaberuka: AfDB reasserts readiness to support Tunisia

April 11, 2011 - TAP - President of African Development Bank (AfDB) Donald Kaberuka renewed the African financial institution's will support Tunisia's efforts, at this stage.
"We have important commitments and we will carry on our co-operation with Tunisia," he said, after his talk, on Thursday in Tunis, with Interim Prime Minister Béji Caid Essebsi.
The AfDB chairman underlined that his institution is working on, jointly with the competent Tunisian authorities, a large-scale short- and mid-term programme as part of the priorities set by the Interim Government.
He went on saying that a very important support budget will be appropriated to projects for improving transparency and good governance, in addition to infrastructure projects aimed to stimulate growth and employment, notably in the underprivileged regions of Tunisia.
During the last events, Tunisia never failed to honour its commitments with AfDB, Mr. Kaberuka insisted, voicing confidence in the capacity of the Tunisian economy to recover its growth pace.
Speaking of the situation of the refugees, on the Tunisian-Libyan border, Mr. Kaberuka reminded that AfDB and its staff had granted a one-million-dollar emergency humanitarian donation to the Tunisian Red Crescent, to help it cope with the high tide of refugees fleeing Libya.
The talk was attended by Planning and International Co-operation Minister Abdelhamid Triki and Secretary of State for Foreign Minister Radhouane Nouisser.
