April 12, 2011  -TAP – Interim President Foued Mebazaa received Tuesday European Commission President José Manuel Barroso, who is currently visiting Tunisia. "I am carrying a message of friendship, admiration and respect for Tunisia and I want to express our solidarity and support for transition to democracy in the country", Barroso said at the end of the meeting.
The Tunisian Revolution has ''also greatly inspired the whole Arab world", he added, noting that this crucial transitional stage involved "great expectations", especially in matters of social and economic development and employment. The processes of democratic transition are always "very demanding'', Mr. Barroso said, affirming that he "had great confidence in the future of Tunisia".
He also expressed the readiness of the EU to provide "concrete support" at political, economic, commercial and financial levels to "the efforts of this country which is so dear to us".
The meeting was notably attended by the Foreign Minister and the EU Ambassador in Tunis.
Mr. Barroso is also expected to hold talks with Interim Prime Minister Béji Caïd Essebsi and Foreign Minister Mouldi Kéfi.
