April 20, 2011 - TAP - Delegate Minister to the Interim Prime Minister Rafaa Ben Achour conferred, on Wednesday in Tunis, with Ms. Anne Brasseur, member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (C.E.) and Rapporteur on the situation in Tunisia.
Ms. Brasseur said Europe was ready to lend total support and its experience to Tunisia after its Revolution which conquered the whole world, adding that the Tunisian model could only succeed if driven by patience and hope.
She reminded that a debate had taken place with the C.E. Parliamentary Assembly, last January 27, at the end of which a 14-point report describing the situation in Tunisia was drafted.
She also praised the measures announced by the Interim Government, particularly those lifting restrictions on activities of political parties and human rights groups, as well as promises made to guarantee freedom of speech and media.
The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, she said, "pledges itself to follow very closely political progress in Tunisia," to strengthen" its dialogue with the Interim Government and with other institutions which will monitor the coming elections and find the appropriate means that would assist it on its path to democracy".
