May 3, 2011 - TAP - The African Development Bank (AfDB) and the World Bank (WB) reasserted, on Tuesday, commitment to provide Tunisia with "an urgent budget support" worth 1 billion US dollars, i.e., 500 million US $ from each of the institutions.
This joint operation "is indicative of reinforced co-operation between the two multi-lateral institutions and a token of their support to the Tunisian people," AfDB Chairman Donald Kaberuka and WB President Robert Zoellick specified, on Tuesday in Tunis.
Mr. Kaberuka said that "WB President's visit to AfDB and North Africa is a sign of confidence in the region".
For his part, Mr. Zoellick pointed out that WB supports reforms in Tunisia, as regards "improvement of governance, transparency and laws on freedom of association, and creation of jobs, mainly in the underprivileged regions".
