Interim President confers with OIC Secretary-General

May 7, 2011 – TAP - Interim President Foued Mebazaa received, on Saturday, Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu.
The latter said that the meeting, which he described as "fraternal", reviewed the historical developments that occurred in Tunisia".
"I had expressed to the Interim President OIC's consideration for the historical responsibility assumed by the Tunisian people in the phase of democratic transition", the OIC secretary-general added.
The support of OIC to democratic transition, the assistance provided to persons fleeing Libya to the Tunisian-Libyan border and the humanitarian action conducted by the organization, particularly with regard to medical assistance and repatriation of African refugees from Sudan, Niger and Chad, were also the focus of the meeting.
Mr. Ihsanoglu said that the meeting had also turned on the situation in the Muslim world, specifying that he had briefed the Interim President about the next ministers' meeting due to be held at the end of June 2011 in the capital of Kazakhstan.
