Interim Prime Minister receives members of the Newspaper Directors Association

May 9, 2011 – TAP  - The situation of written press in Tunisia and ways to improve this sector and ensure the safety of journalists on duty and preserve their physical integrity were the major themes of the meeting, held on Monday in Tunis, by Interim Prime Minister Béji Caid Essebsi and members of the Newspaper Directors Association.
The meeting focused on the participation of different active forces in defining the guidelines of the national policy.
Mr. Moncef Ben Mrad, Director of the Association, told (TAP) news agency that the meeting provided the opportunity to review problems faced by the written press and its role in defending freedoms.
He reiterated the denunciation by members of the Association of the aggressions suffered by journalists from the security forces, stressing the need to join conditions for the protection of journalists while on duty and respect their physical and moral integrity.
Mr. Ben Mrad said that the Prime Minister had expressed the Interim Government's support for free and responsible press and his keenness to ensure protection of journalists.
