May 13, 2011 – TAP  - Caretaker President of the Republic Foued Mebazaa received on Friday Interior Minister Habib Essid who said, in a statement following the meeting, that he had reported to the Interim President on progress of the Ministry's services and the general security situation in the country.
The meeting, he added, also provided the opportunity to look at the outcome of his visit to Italy, on May 10-11, 2011, at the invitation of his Italian counterpart, a stay during which he had met Italy's Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs with whom he reviewed the bilateral co-operation relations and prospects for their strengthening in all fields.
Besides, the Minister pointed out that the visit had been marked by the handing to Tunisia of three frigates as part of the support programme concluded between Tunisia and Italy.
Additionally, he said he had explained Tunisia's stand on illegal immigration and reasserted the need to examine the issue in a more comprehensive and more coherent manner to achieve effective symbiosis between the legitimate principles of free circulation of persons and guaranteed chances for legal immigration, in addition to the Italian authorities' participation in the creation of small- and medium-sized projects in the Tunisian priority areas.
