Military court kicks off investigation in case of deposed President and his security subordinates

May 14, 2011 - TAP  - The investigating judge of the Tunis standing military court started enquiry into the case of ousted President Zine el Abidine Ben Ali, his former Interior Minister Rafik Belhaj Kacem, Police Officer retiree Jalel Boudriga and all persons whose involvement was evidenced by the inquest.
An authorised Military Justice source pointed out, on Saturday, that the investigating judge to whom this case was referred by the Tunis Court of Appeal, last May 11, started procedures at a sustained pace, in compliance with the case's requirements, in order to unveil truth and enlighten the public opinion in a reasonable time.
The same source adds, in a communiqué by the National Defense Ministry, that the investigating judge issued a committal against retired colonel major of the intervention units Jalel Boudriga after his arrest.
Moreover, committals were issued against former Public Security Director Superintendent General Lotfi Zouaoui and former Special Services Director Rachid Ben Abid who are also involved in the case.
The communiqué adds that the investigation will be conducted at a sustained pace, in compliance with the requirements of criminal justice, to identify and arrest those who committed crimes and to adopt the appropriate procedure, while respecting all legal guarantees.
