Caretaker PM confers with French Interior Minister

16 May 2011 - TAP - Caretaker Prime Minister Beji Caid Essebsi received, on Monday, France's Interior Minister Claude Guéant.
"We are ready to assist Tunisia on its path to freedom and democracy, and in all fields of public life", Mr. Guéant said in a news conference.
On his first visit to Tunisia, the French Interior Minister, who is also to meet with his Tunisian opposite number, asserted that "security is one co-operation field between the two countries and we side with Tunisia in all steps which it chooses to undertake, insofar as democracy needs security".
The French people and Government, "who were taken aback by revolution in Tunisia," he pointed out, "are following with enthusiasm and great interest what is happening in Tunisia".
The French Interior Minister has come to Tunisia on the eve of Mr. Beji Caid Essebsi's visit to France, as of May 17, where he is expected to meet with his French counterpart and President Nicolas Sarkozy.
