May 18, 2011 - TAP - "Tunisia deserves commitment. It is establishing a democratic process with all its ingredients", Interim Prime Minister Béji Caid Essebsi, who is paying a visit to France, told French Europe 1 radio station.
He made this statement in the wake of the call launched by 21 economists to adopt an economic plan to support democratic transition in Tunisia. According to the call, the failure of such democratic process in Tunisia would mean "a victory of all dictatorships in the region and a severe defeat for democracy".
Interviewed by radio host Jean-Pierre Elkabbach on the democratic process in Tunisia, Mr. Béji Caid Essebsi said that "Tunisia has always been exemplary, including in the democratic process. We will work harder to go as fast as possible on this path".
Answering a question on his feelings about France's reaction at the beginning of the Tunisian Revolution, the PM replied: "I'm a man who looks to the future. I was not aware of what had happened before I took office".
Mr. Béji Caïd Essebsi is on a two-day official visit to France at the invitation of his French counterpart François Fillon.
The visit comes eight days before the G8 Summit to be held on May 26 and 27 in Deauville.
