MDS reasserts support for July 24, 2011 date

May 20, 2011 - TAP - Caretaker Prime Minister Béji Caïd Essebsi met, on Friday in Tunis, Socialist Democratic Movement (MDS) Secretary-General Ahmed Khaskhoussi who reasserted his party's support for the date of July 24, 2011 as the agreed-upon appointment to elect the Constituent Assembly.
He added, in a statement to Tunis-Afrique Presse (TAP) that the meeting with the Prime Minister had been an opportunity to examine the security situation in the country. He specified that MDS had presented to the Prime Minister proposals to re-establish serenity among the citizens.
In this connection, he stressed the need to provide justice with all the needed guarantees to meet requirements of the Revolution. Regarding the information sector which, according to him, "did not evolve in the hoped-for manner," he submitted to the Government the idea of opening up the sector to license applicants for private television and radio stations.
