Suggestion to postpone Constituent Assembly's elections to be looked into on Tuesday by Cabinet

May 23, 2011 - TAP - Interim Prime Minister Béji Caïd Essebsi met, on Monday afternoon in Tunis, with Chairman of the High Authority for the Achievement of the Revolution Objectives, Political Reform and Democratic Transition Yadh Ben Achour, who was accompanied by two Authority members and by Mr. Kamel Jendoubi, Chairman of the Independent High Authority for the Elections.
The latter told the Prime Minister that "it was not possible to hold the (Constituent Assembly's) elections on July 24, 2011". He submitted to him, instead, the Elections Authority's proposal to postpone the ballot to October 16, 2011, "for procedural and material reasons".
Mr. Béji Caïd Essebsi said the Government has taken note of this proposal which will be referred to Tuesday's Cabinet meeting for discussion.
He said that a consultation and co-ordination will be established to this effect with the High Authority for the Achievement of the Revolution Objectives and the Independent High Authority for the Elections.
