Japan calls on international community to help Tunisia's democratic transition

May 23, 2011 - TAP - Japan's Foreign Minister Takeaki Matsumoto called on the international community to help Tunisia in its democratic transition.
Receiving Foreign Minister Mohamed Mouldi Kéfi, on a visit in Japan, the head of Japanese diplomacy also stressed the excellent relations binding the two countries, specifies a Foreign Ministry's communiqué.
On this occasion, Japan's Foreign Minister extended thanks to Tunisia for its solidarity burst vis-à-vis Japan following the earthquake and the tsunami that hit the country last March 11.
Mr. Kéfi also had talks with Ms. Sadako Ogata, chairwoman of Japanese International Co-operation (JICA), who reasserted her support to Tunisia and JICA's commitment to carry on its job-creation projects, particularly in the underprivileged areas of the country.
Besides, Mr. Kéfi had a working session with Japanese MPs and met Mr. Yoshiro Mori, chairman of the Japan-Tunisia Parliamentary Friendship Association and former Prime Minister.
Tunisia's FM started his visit in Japan on Sunday by a meeting with members of the Tunisian expatriate community.
