France to grant one-billion-euro aid to Egypt and Tunisia

May 27, 2011 - TAP - French President Nicolas Sarkozy announced on Friday, during a news conference held at the end of the G8 Summit in Deauville, that France is to grant a one-billion-euro assistance to Egypt and Tunisia.
Detailing the amount of 40 billion dollars the Summit has earmarked to support the "Arab Spring," Mr. Sarkozy said that "twenty billions" are to be provided by development banks, with the exclusion of the International Monetary Fund, in addition to "10 billion dollars in bilateral commitments" and "another 10-billion package from the Gulf countries."
Out of the 10-billion-dollar bilateral commitments, France's share amounts to one billion Euros to be granted to Egypt and Tunisia, he specified.
