June 24, 2011 - TAP - Caretaker Prime Minister Béji Caid Essebsi received, on Friday in Tunis, Zitouna Bank Board of Directors Chairman Mahfoudh Barouni.
The latter said, in a statement to TAP news agency, that the meeting had made it possible to present some ideas to develop Islamic banking in Tunisia in general.
He added, in the same connection, that "action will focus henceforth on developing activities of the Bank as a national bank with a promising future and a gain that will make of Tunisia a regional hub in Islamic financing to strengthen its ties with Islamic financial businesses, particularly the Islamic Development Bank (IDB)."
Emphasis had also been placed, he said, on the need to make the most of Tunisian skills in this field and make better known the foundations of Islamic finance.
The meeting had also discussed the next steps to confiscate the assets of close relatives of the ousted president, he added.
