Evacuation Day commemorated in Bizerte

October 15, 2011 - TAP - Caretaker President Foued Mebazaa chaired, on Saturday in Bizerte, a ceremony commemorating the 48th anniversary of Evacuation Day, in memory of martyrs who sacrificed themselves for the evacuation of the last foreign soldier.
On his arrival at the martyrs' square, the Interim President was greeted by Caretaker Prime Minister Beji Caid Essebsi and National Defence Minister Abdelkarim Zbidi.
Mr. Foued Mebazaa saluted the flag as the national anthem was performed and reviewed a detachment of the three armies that paid him honours.
He laid down a wreath at the bottom of the martyrs' memorial and recited the Fatiha in their memory.
The ceremony was attended, notably, by Government members, members of the Higher Council of the Armies, secretaries general of political parties, chairmen of national authorities as well as several militants, freedom fighters and ex-servicemen who had participated in the evacuation
