May 24, 2012 - TAP - Prime Minister Hamadi Jebali said, on Thursday, that an immediate inquiry will be launched to determine the circumstances and responsibilities in the fire which broke out, on Thursday morning, at the Moncef Bey Market in Tunis, as well as the attacks suffered by the security officers and firefighters during their intervention.

He went on saying, in a statement to the media, while attending the Tripartite Conference on Launch of Social Dialogue Promotion Project, (May 24-25, 2012 in Tunis) : "This is not an acceptable situation that each time a fire breaks out somewhere, the security and civil defence officers forces are attacked, as if they were responsible for what happened."

The Moncef Bey Market fire broke out on Thursday morning at 6:20 a.m., destroying 352 sale points over an area of 1,500 square meters.

Individuals prevented the firefighters and security officers from intervening to extinguish the fire, by attacking them and barring access to "Avenue de la République" at the Market level.
