25th of September 2012 - The government presidency expresses its regret to the decision to advocate a general strike in the media sector announced by the expanded executive structure of the National Union of Tunisian Journalists SNJT today and does not see a need for this decision especially after implementing and activating the framework of dialogue and consultation with representatives of the media sector including unions and associations on all general issues related to the sector as well as matters of social and professional nature of some media organizations in the context of social negotiations since 23,August,2012.
The government presidency considers that any disruption of dialogue and consultation and the trend towards escalation is not compatible with the genuine desire of the majority of journalists and people working in the sector to upgrade it professionally and socially and highlighting its role in materializing the democratic transition and in the performance of its noble mission.
The government presidency reminds of the initials underlying its vision, principled positions and practical politics towards the media sector which is based on respect for freedom of the press and expression, creativity, independence of public media service and the importance of dialogue and consultation to materialize these values and perspectives into reality according to international standards and compatibility between all parties.
