The Chief of Government Conferred with the UNWTO Secretary-General

23rd of April 2013 - The chief of government Mr. Ali Larayedh conferred on Tuesday morning at the Government Palace in El Kasbah with the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Secretary-General Taleb Rifai. The meeting was in the presence of Tourism Minister Mr. Jamel Gamra and Culture Minister Mr. Mehdi Mabrouk.
Tourism Minister, at a press conference held following the meeting, declared that the conversation came within the framework of the Tunisian Government’s desire to achieve an advanced place in the field of Tourism on the African and international levels and Tunisia’s intension to bid for the UNWTO executive bureau.
On the occasion of the choice of Tunisia to host the works of the 54th meeting of the UNWTO commission for Africa, Tourism Minister emphasized on the fact that this conference will serve as a pure Tunisian message that indicates to the world that our country is an open space that welcomes all its guests. Mr.Gamra said that the World Tourism Organization has every confidence in Tunisia as a tourist  center that could be more prosperous.
Mr. Jamel Gamra talked about the achievements in the field of tourism realized from the beginning of the year 2012 to about mid-April 2013, explainig that the national tourism recorded a year earlier influx of more than 6 million tourists which is expected to rise to 7 million by 2014.
For his part, Mr. Rifai showed his gratitude to the chief of government’s understanding, higlighting the World Tourism Organization’s commitment to provide all sorts of support to Tunisia.
