Talks to join EU's Horizon 2020 will commence in June, says PM

28 May 2015 - TAP - Tunisia will be in negotiations next June to join Horizon 2020, the European Union (EU)'s biggest research and innovation program, Premier Habib Essid announced Wednesday in Brussels, Belgium.

"Tunisia would be as such the first Arab country to have joined this framework program," Essid said at a joint press conference withVice-President of the European Commission Federica Mogherini.

It would also be a EU partner country like the 24 member states and their partners.

Tunisia is expected to ink the agreement in October 2015. Funds of up to 80 billion euros were earmarked for Horizon 2020 (2014-2020) which is centered around scientific research, innovative industries and societal challenges, particularly graduate recruitment.
