25 February 2016 - TAP - A restricted Cabinet meeting, held Thursday under chairmanship of Prime Minister Habib Essid discussed the new draft water code which will replace the code promulgated in 1975.

The Cabinet reviewed the amendments proposed as part of national consultations by specialized offices and monitoring commissions, which aim to put an end to the overuse of some groundwater reserves, protect water resources from pollution, take into consideration the civil society’s contribution in this field and reinforce its role in water governance.

Essid laid emphasis on the importance of introducing the decentralization concept in water management through the creation of regional and local commissions.
