PM kicks off resumption of culture city project works

27 March 2016 - TAP – Prime Minister Habib Essid kicked off, Sunday at the Mohamed V avenue in Tunis, the resumption of the construction works of the Culture city, suspended since 2006.

The project, whose works will last for 18 months, is expected to be ready by the end of October 2017. The works’ global cost is estimated at 76.3 million dinars.

Touring the building accompanied by Equipment and Culture Ministers, Essid called for honouring the set deadlines and take into account the aesthetic and environmental aspects of the city.

He enquired about the subcontracting companies tasked with the achievements of works, pointing out the imperative to carry on the various stages of tenders in compliance with integrity and transparency standards.

The PM estimated that the Tunis city deserves a project of this importance to meet the expectancies of men of culture, creators and youths.

The culture city which includes a covered areas of 4,9 hectares, is composed of a large hall (1,800 places), a theater (700 places), an experimental theatre (300 places), a cinema complex, a house of artists, 3 exhibition halls and a library.

According to Essid, 80% of the suspended public projects worth 10,000 million dinars, have been reactivated and “efforts are exerted to reactivate other projects”.
