26 March 2016 - TAP - “Large-scale” terrorist operations were foiled in Tunisia, announced Prime Minister Habib Essid Friday in a TV interview jointly broadcast by the Tunisian public channel Wataniya 1 and France 24.

“Achievements were made in the anti-terrorist fight (...) and large-scale terrorist operations were thwarted,” said Essid while assessing his government’s work.

The interrogation of suspects arrested in Ben Guerdane’s attack helped security forces  discover numerous weapon caches and get information that might help unmask the attack plan of this terrorist group and means used to infiltrate in Ben Guerdane,” he affirmed.

Setting up an electronic monitoring system at the level of borders with Libya will be launched shortly, as part of a co-operation with the United States and Germany, he recalled, reasserting Tunisia’s attachment to a political solution in Libya.

Describing his relations with the President of the Republic and the House of People’s Representatives Speaker as “exemplary,” the PM explained that “it is normal that some persons are fighting for the post of Prime Minister. Anyone who wants to be PM is welcome: It is democracy.”

The recent statements of official spokesman for the government Khaled Chaouket on the fate of  former president Zine el Abidine Ben Ali in Saudi Arabia since five years “does not express the government’s position,” he affirmed.

“Ben Ali is wanted by justice as other Tunisians. Our role is to enforce the law, if he  returns to Tunisia,” he pointed out.
