WCO pledges to support Tunisia (Kunio Mikuriya)

07 April 2016 - TAP - World Customs Organization (WCO) Secretary-General Kunio Mikuriya, on Thursday, affirmed the organization’s commitment to make its experience available to Tunisia, as the country is working to develop this field and counter smuggling, according to a Prime Ministry press release.

Mikuriya added at the end of his meeting with Prime Minister Habib Essid, that WCO’s support will consist in a technical assistance to devise a strategy to modernize and upgrade the Tunisian customs.

Essid undertook to provide political support to develop the customs system and achieve the required reforms, so as to improve trade and economic environment, the same source added.

Mikuriya began a two-day visit to Tunisia on Wednesday, as part of his organization’s support to the Tunisian Customs in the implementation of its 2016-2020 modernization plan.
