General situation under focus in Cabinet meeting

07 April 2016 – TAP - The general situation in the country was the pivotal issue at a Cabinet meeting held Wednesday evening in Dar Dhiafa, Carthage.

A number of decrees were approved in relation to information and communication, social housing in the governorates of Béja and Manouba and the transfer of a state land into a private property in Gabes, Spokesperson for the Government Khaled Chawket said.

In another connection, Chawket spoke about 20,282 job offers, including 2,777 for graduates in Q1 of 2016. Recipients of active labour market programs are estimated at 26,640 in the same period, he said.

The Tunisian Solidarity Bank (BTS) received 7,544 loan applications in Q1 of 2016 up from 3,671 in the same period last year. Loans amounted to 55.8 MTD against 32.2 MTD in the first quarter of 2015.

In another connection, Chawket said donations to the Fund for Fight against Terrorism stood at 2.3 MTD adding up to the 5 MTD made available by the State.

The Cabinet meeting also focused on a study which is being carried out by the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development on the promotion of social and solidarity economy.

This economic model is likely to help cut unemployment inland and address challenges facing local and foreign investors, the spokesperson indicated.    

Tunisia's foreign policy in connection to the crisis in Libya was likewise discussed. In this vein, the Cabinet meeting hailed the establishment of Fayez Al-Sarraj government of national accord in Tripoli.

Premier Habib Essid paid tribute at this meeting to Leader Habib Bourguiba on the 16th anniversary of his death.
