Youssef Chahed annouces in Algiers cancellation of exit tax from Tunisian territory imposed on Algerian vehicles

October 9, 2016 – TAP - Prime Minister Youssef Chahed announced, on Sunday in Algiers, the cancellation of the exit tax from Tunisian territory imposed on Algerian vehicles, "that caused some discomfort among our Algerian brothers." He said he informed the Algerian authorities of the decision.

In a statement to TAP Youssef Chahed described as "excellent" the talks he had, Sunday morning, with Algerian Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal and the delegation of the Algerian government, adding that several issues were discussed " openly and in a spirit of fraternity. "

Other issues were discussed, he added, including the evolution of bilateral cooperation at the security level, particularly as regards the fight against terrorism and terrorist groups.

Youssef Chahed voiced, in this respect, satisfaction at the consensus reached at this level between the two parties.

In another connection, the Prime Minister said that the talks also focused on economic and trade relations and were an occasion to look at means to overcome some outstanding issues.

The talks also provided the opportunity to adopt a "comprehensive and common economic strategic vision" which concerns he said, the industrial and commercial sectors and aims to promote access to African markets in a common manner.

Youssef Chahed announced that a structure will be created in Algeria and in Tunisia in charge of coordinating the efforts of both countries in this regard.

According to Chahed, the issue of freedom of movement, work and residence were also included in the agenda of his talks with Algerian officials. Emphasis was placed on the need to "hoist the exceptional relations between the two countries to higher levels," he said, through the implementation of the agreements signed between the two parties and the diversification of partnership activities .

During the one-day working visit in Algiers, the Prime Minister visited with Abdelmalek Sellal the square of the martyrs of El Alia cemetery where he laid a wreath of flowers and recited the Fatiha in memory of the martyrs of the Algerian revolution.
